05/14/2021: This is spreading all over our river rock landscape, in a new house that we did not experience spring in yet. I’m assuming it’s a weed from the open space that our property borders, but if it’s a nice and well behaved groundcover, I might let it stay 🙂 Area gets full sun, and has clay soil.

That is bindweed. Hard to get rid of in grass. Here's an article from CSU Extension on how to deal with it.
