This is the first group of varieties to produce superior bud featuring elevated cannabinoid levels without the need for intense light during set, consistent periods of time. Whether using artificial light or sunlight, care and attention was always required in matters of timing the plants’ exposure to it, and ensuring that the hours of darkness really were dark. Light pollution from even minor sources has been known to confuse their internal ‘clocks’ as to whether they are supposed to be vegetating or blooming.

The advantages of automatic cannabis seeds
In addition, these strains are a great choice for gardeners in less warm climate areas who wish to grow on open ground, or on a balcony or window ledge, but find themselves restricted by short summers.
Yield factors for autoflowering seed strains
How is cannabis able to flower automatically?
Autoflowering seeds, on the other hand, are able to complete their life cycle regardless of how long the days are, although at least eighteen hours of light will give the best results. Unlike regular seeds, ‘auto’ seeds grow crops that do not need to undergo the usual cycle of 12 hours of light alternating with 12 hours of darkness in order to bloom successfully, whether they are indica, sativa or hybrid. They seem virtually immune to light pollution, tolerating irregular and unpredictable periods of light and darkness with impunity. Outdoor gardeners with short summers can wait until the warmest weeks to cultivate their automatic cannabis seed crop, safe in the knowledge that most of these hours will fuel the flower production, not the vegetation, period.
The auto-flowering gene occurs only in Cannabis Ruderalis species. They usually come from Canada and Russia and produce very low levels of THC.
Autoflowering seeds can be grown at any time of the year. However, in order to optimize their performance, we recommend planting them from March to late August. Notice that it can take from 60 to 70 days from seed germination to harvest, so it would be possible to make 3 to 4 crops per year, mainly depending on the latitude and evironmental conditions of our growing spot.
Characteristics of automatic marijuana seeds
Autoflowering seeds do not depend on photoperiod – which is to say, do not respond to the day / night light cycle – but will start flowering three or four weeks after seed germination.
Indoors, we recommend a photoperiod of 20h of light and 4 hours of complete darkness a day for the entire cycle. Since autoflowering seeds can be harvested after 60 or 70 days from germination, a 10L pot is enough for the entire cycle. There’s no need to grow in larger containers since we will get virtually the same harvest, and we should always plant our Auto seeds into the definitive container (they hate transplants).
In recent years, the automatic flowering trait has been transmitted to THC, photoperiod strains through several breeding steps, thus achieving automatic flowering plants with high psychoactivity. At the same time, the yields of the original Ruderalis varieties have been increased notably, since they’re normally very low.
